Thank God we had that snow to protect the ground from the freezing temps that followed, coming as they did without even had any frost. I had a number of things, that should have been okay, that died down to the snow line.
Me too! I am having to re-assess lots of plants that have been, up to now, hardy. I just can’t have stuff die the ground like that every year. At least not big shrubby furniture pieces of the garden! 🙂
Exactly. I am going to have to resign myself to zone 7 shrubs. They don’t serve their function if they’re only 6 inches tall.
You SO get it. I read a recent garden article that stated in my zone 7 landscape, “Plan for zone 7, not 9 and buy for zone 5.” I can’t tell you how many people are hooked on those zone 9 plants that we’ve had access to for the last 20 years now, and it’s coming back to bite all of us in the wallet!
I have zone 9 plants in pots. They go into the mini greenhouse which I keep just above freezing. It’s the zone 8 plants that I could grow in my old garden that I have to give up. I’m in a cold sink on the wrong side of Phinney Ridge. I don’t like it, but there’s no fighting Mother nature.
Deirdre- You rock- period. 😉
Blushing…..you do, too.
I guess I’ve already mentally blocked that snow! I’ve been trying to get the garden tucked in, but keep getting distracted by the bulbs on sale.
fantastic site, wonderful writting i will definately be recommending it on my website to my users! I personally cant wait for the snow this year!! fingers crossed it comes again 🙂 lol
I hope we don’t see this in 2011 🙂
Kathy- You need to take a look at the forecast for our La Nina winter. 🙂

Hahaha- yup, I just bought some bulbs too. In my line of work it’s often do as I say and not as I do. My garden is about half buttoned. 🙂
